Guide - Tenants and the Township
Things you need to know as a tenant (renter) in Central Frontenac.
Introduction
This guide highlights many of the important things you need to know as a tenant in Central Frontenac Township.
Determining Your Municipality
One of the first questions you may have is "I am a tenant, but am I in Central Frontenac?". To determine if you are, you can contact the Township office with the civic address of your rental.
Tenancy Verification Form
Many of the services Central Frontenac Township provides are only for those who own property or rent within the Township's boundaries.
To confirm you are a tenant in Central Frontenac you must submit a Tenancy Verification Form to the Township office. You only need to do this once, the form is kept on file. It is a good idea to do this as soon as you begin to rent in the Township, and whenever you change addresses.
Daily Life
Waste Disposal (Garbage & trash)
Central Frontenac Township has four waste disposal sites. Waste is accepted at these sites during site operation hours. Central Frontenac Township does not offer a public garbage pick-up service. Bagged garbage requires "Bag tags", and trucked garbage will require a "tipping fee".
Each bag of garbage must have a bag tag affixed to it before being deposited at the waste disposal site (dump). Bag tags cost $1 each and are available at the Township Office.
Recyclables are free of charge, and do not require bag tags, but must be cleaned and sorted. Paper must be bundled.
Tipping fees (dumping fees) are required for all other items besides recyclables.
Bag tags and tipping fees can only be purchased by tenants who have submitted a Tenancy Verification Form.
Fire Permits
Fire Permits are required for any burning during summer besides campfires and barbeques (and barbeque type appliances). Any burning requiring a fire permit may only be carried out between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am. During winter fire permits are not required. Fire permits are inexpensive and can be purchased at the Township office. A Tenancy Verification Form is not required.
Dog Tags
Dog tags are required for every dog over six months of age, regardless of breed or sex. Further, tags are required whether the dog has been neutered or vaccinated or not.
Voting
Tenants may vote in municipal elections, but, like all electors, their names must be on the voters list. Tenants should call the Township office before each municipal election in which they plan to vote to confirm their name is on the voters list.
