Required Inspections for Buildings Within the Scope of Part 9
The person to whom a building permit is issued is responsible for notifying the Chief Building Official when the following stages of construction are reached:
Readiness to construct the footings (“Footings”)
Substantial completion of footings and foundation, prior to commencement of backfilling (“Pre-backfill”)
Substantial completion of structural framing, ductwork and piping for heating and air-conditioning systems (“Framing”)
Substantial completion of insulation, vapour barriers and air barriers (“Insulation”)
Substantial completion of fire separations, closures and all fire protection systems (“Fire protection”)
Readiness for inspection and testing of
a) Building sewers and building drains
b) Water service pipes
c) Drainage and venting systems
d) Water distribution system
e) Plumbing fixtures and appliances
(“Plumbing”)Substantial completion of installation of plumbing not located in a structure, before backfilling (“Plumbing – exterior”)
Commencement of construction of
a) Masonry fireplaces and masonry chimneys
b) Factory built fireplaces and allied chimneys
c) Solid fuel fired stoves, ranges, space heaters and furnaces and allied chimneys (“Woodstove and chimney”)Completion of construction and installation of components required to permit residential occupancy under s. 1.3.3.2 of Division C of the O.B.C. (“Occupancy”)
In addition, for buildings not within the scope of Part 9 of Division B of the O.B.C., inspections are required for the structural framing for each storey of the building, and for the heating, air conditioning and air contaminant extraction equipment of the building.
