Central Frontenac Township has a Bag Tag program in place that requires garbage bag tags for every container or bag of waste disposed of at the landfill site. The price of bag tags is $10.00 for a sheet of 10 and tags may be purchased at the Central Frontenac Township office or any of the three land fill sites.

Recently the Ministry of the Environment gave notice to Municipalities that provincial funding to encourage waste reduction and increase recycling will be tied to the success rate in the quantity and the number of waste streams the Municipality recycles. The Provincial goal is to increase waste diversion to 60% of the waste stream. The Bag Tag program encourages residents to reduce the amount of waste generated and bag tag rates are a contributing factor in the Bag Tag program, thus encouraging an increase in waste diversion.

Recyclable materials are received at the landfill sites at no charge and residents are encouraged to compost as much as possible to divert unnecessary bulk to the landfill sites and to help the environment. Kitchen scrape composting is a great source of fertilizer for your garden.
